Consolidated viewing figures released today – taking account of timeshifted viewing on a television over a seven day period – show that Channel 4’s Christmas Eve broadcast of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt was watched by an average of 6.7 million viewers, 23.5% share of the audience.The Christmas Day repeat showing was watched by a further 1.4 million viewer, 5.9% share of the audience.

The consolidated figure of 6.7m for the Christmas Eve showing, an increase of 3.3 million on the live overnight audience of 3.4 million, makes it Channel 4’s highest rating programme of 2016. Channel 4’s Chief Creative Officer, Jay Hunt said: “It’s wonderful that so many families enjoyed channel 4’s magical animation of a true children’s classic. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt was a real Christmas treat.”

The half-hour Christmas film, from the makers of The Snowman and The Snowdog, features the voices of Olivia Colman, Pam Ferris and Mark Williams. The animation is based on the hit bedtime book written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt follows the intrepid adventures of siblings Stan, Katie, Rosie, Max, the baby and Rufus the dog, who decide one day to go on an adventure in search of bears.
